The monastery was founded in 1056 by Bishop Adalbero and is approaching its 1000th anniversary. The Romanesque frescoes in the west choir date back to the 11th century, otherwise the Baroque style predominates. The monastery on the river has experienced many good years, but also some bad ones, but Lambach Abbey has survived to this day. Have you ever sat in a monastery theater where plays were first performed 270 years ago? The only remaining baroque monastery theater in the German-speaking world is still a unique stage for many performances. Or have you ever marveled at the almost 1,000-year-old frescoes, which are among the most important works of art in Europe from the 11th century?If you would like to find out why the world-famous frescoes were lost for centuries and only rediscovered by chance, you are cordially invited to take part in a guided tour! You can also admire other art and cultural treasures on a guided tour of Lambach Abbey. Guided tour times: Easter Sunday to October 31, Wednesday to Sunday at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we ask you to book in advance.
