description: "GMUNDEN/PINSDORF. 7,729 roadside assistance calls and towing operations last year, 1,184 of which took place at night: ÖAMTC Gmunden is one of the leading mobility service providers in the Salzkammergut region. The ‘Yellow Angels’ from Gmunden have recently also brought the most modern of all 18 ÖAMTC bases in Upper Austria into operation. The new building, situated in the municipality of Pinsdorf, was officially opened on Friday 23 January 2015 with a ceremony and an ecumenical blessing. On Saturday 24 January, an open day was held, during which a total of around 800 visitors took a closer look at the new base. Centrally located on the Salzkammergut main road at the junction with Leitenstraße, and just around 500 metres north-west of the old base, the new building offers excellent accessibility. There are 12,860 club members living in and around Gmunden. If we include the children of members and young people covered by free membership, there are in fact 16,600 yellow ÖAMTC club cards in the base’s catchment area. The construction of the new branch was necessary both due to the constantly rising membership figures and to improve the quality of service and support. The previous building, which was almost 26 years old, had been bursting at the seams for several years. When the old site opened in 1989, the club had around 4,000 members from the Gmunden area – today there are more than three times that number. Open, customer-friendly and accessible “The new centre combines functionality, an open customer area and modern design in a single building,” says Josef Thurnhofer, Regional Director of ÖAMTC Upper Austria. The centre was designed by architect DI Heinz Plöderl, whose signature style is evident in numerous other ÖAMTC centres. The new building has been equipped with eight state-of-the-art test bays. Six lifting platforms enable an ergonomic way of working. The building is designed to be transparent, customer-friendly and accessible; in addition to offices and staff facilities, the new building also offers dedicated seminar rooms for training and further education. “ÖAMTC Gmunden currently employs 16 staff members, two of whom are apprentices,” says centre manager Michael Osterkorn."
