Parts of the church (choir and sacristy) were replaced by conglomerate and brick in the 15th century, until then it was a Romanesque wooden structure. The nave was not rebuilt until the 17th century. After a thorough restoration between 1991 and 2008, the church is now a must-see gem in the beautiful landscape of the Almtal.
