You can see how the ‘oldest pipeline in the world’ was built and how it was technically processed, which transported the brine from Hallstatt, around forty kilometres away, to the brewhouses in Ebensee. This ‘Sultz-Strehn’, as it was originally called, is still in operation today, more than four centuries later! Once 13,000 hollowed-out spruce trunks were used, but plastic pipes have long since taken over. **No salt without wood** This saying proves that salt production goes hand in hand with the timber industry. The hard physical labour in industry and in the forest is vividly and comprehensibly documented in museum.ebensee. **Customs in a variety of forms** It is astonishing that Ebensee has crystallised a tradition that is still practised today in many different forms. Visitors have the opportunity to explore these ‘customs’, such as the ‘Ebenseer Glöcklerlauf’, which is known far beyond the borders of Austria, or the rich nativity scene. **Large nativity scene exhibition** From 26 December to Candlemas (2 February), museum.ebensee offers a large, highly acclaimed nativity scene exhibition, in which rarities of the so-called ‘Ebensee landscape nativity scene’ can be seen. **A journey through time** Old crafts, fishing, Austria's first drag lift (it was located on Ebensee's local mountain, the Feuerkogel), everyday history and an originally furnished school class from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, along with numerous other exhibits, invite you on a journey through time that can be combined with a holiday in the Salzkammergut. **SPECIAL EXHIBITION 2026** ‘Hans Greil – Mentor to a Generation.
