Covering an area of around 100 hectares, the river landscape here is characterised by an exceptional diversity of plant and animal species. Anyone walking through this natural paradise will discover willows and alders, rare orchids such as the fly orchid and bumblebee orchid or even the common juniper. It thrives on the humus-rich, yet dry soil. Lily of the valley and wild garlic characterise the riparian forests on the banks, where quite atypical trees such as oak, beech and birch also grow. Even alpine flowers such as gentian can be found here. Their seeds were washed up by floods from the mountains. Water birds, such as the goosander, also feel at home between the sandbanks that the river repeatedly forms.
