It is a return to the place where her relationship with clay first developed—to a city that has been synonymous with ceramics and sculpture for centuries. Today, Ucki Kossdorff is one of Austria’s most distinguished sculptors. Her work has always revolved exclusively around the human being: around dignity and vulnerability, closeness and distance, memory and identity. She first gained recognition for her expressive, naturalistic figures and portraits. Over the course of her career, she has developed a distinctive formal language in which she distills human bodies down to their most fundamental essence—powerful, block-like sculptures that point far beyond the visible. This extraordinary artistic evolution is documented in the 345-page volume *“UCKI KOSSDORFF – The Condensed Human.”* It brings together more than 230 images of her works from international exhibitions, biographical and philosophical texts, as well as video material accessible via QR codes, offering a comprehensive view of the artist’s life’s work. The reading will be presented together with her son, Jan Kossdorff. Personal stories about famous portraits, encounters, and the creation of her most significant works will make the evening an intimate and inspiring encounter with one of the most distinctive voices in Austrian sculpture. The reading focuses on the stories behind her sculptures—above all, her encounters with **Thomas Bernhard**, whose essence and contradictions she captured in one of her most impressive portrait sculptures. Kossdorff, together with her son Jan, explains why even a legendary “grumbler” can be endearing, as well as the creation of her works on Nelson Mandela, the globally unique **thinker**, and her radically reduced body sculptures.
