After several years of studying piano (classical music) at the National University of Rosario and taking private lessons in contemporary music, he moved to Boston in 2001.Leo graduated in 2003 with a major in “Professional Music” and has since performed regularly with Joe Lovano and the Esperanza Spalding Group.In 2023, Leo Genovese shared the Grammy Award for “Best Improvised Jazz Solo” with Wayne Shorter for the track “Endangered Species.” He was also nominated for a Grammy alongside Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding for “Best Jazz Instrumental Album” for “Live at the Detroit Festival.” Although Genovese is still at the beginning of his career, he hopes that his music can one day be more than just entertainment—namely, a force for change in a world marked by economic, social, and political challenges.“I want it to evolve in a positive, helpful direction,” he says. “I hope that people can truly derive value from it. There are so many people in the world who are suffering.” Most of us never notice this because we have the bare necessities and much more. But some people—many people—have very little.” Paul Zauner has performed with jazz greats Leon Thomas, George Adams, David Murray, Kirk Lightsey, and Gregory Porter.Zauner’s latest CD project, featuring trombone and a string quintet, is “Lieblingslieder und Paul Zauner Bande: The Music of Abdullah Ibrahim.” The audience can expect a rousing concert experience full of groove, improvisational artistry, and musical depth.
