Directions: How to get to the restaurant “Das Geyerhammer” in Scharstein in the Almtal

We recommend traveling by public transportation!

By train: From Wels Station, take the Almtalbahn (Line 153) toward Grünau im Almtal to the Scharnstein-Mühldorf stop; There are numerous connections from Wels Station to the mainline trains on the Westbahn line (Line 101); it’s about a 5–7-minute walk from the station across the Hofmüllersteg to the restaurant.

Travel: Departure from Linz Central Station at 4:22 p.m./5:30 p.m. (Tue–Fri), from Wels Central Station at 4:50 p.m./5:50 p.m. (Tue–Fri), arrival in Scharnstein-Mühldorf at 5:45 p.m./6:45 p.m. For travel from Wels, we recommend the Upper Austria Leisure Ticket for €19.90 (for 2 people, round trip)

Return trip: Since the last Almtalbahn train back to Wels departs as early as 8:16 p.m., we recommend leaving Wels at 4:50 p.m. to allow plenty of time for dinner. If you’d like to arrive later, we recommend taking the 9:45 p.m. train to Grünau im Almtal and staying overnight there, for example, at the Romantikhotel Almtalhof (near the train station). By bus: OÖVV Bus Line 533 Gmunden – Scharnstein – Grünau im Almtal; get off at the Scharnstein Ortszentrum stop, then walk about 15–17 minutes to the restaurant. The same options apply for the return trip as for the train journey!

Travel via the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service Route 52 from Laakirchen to the Scharnstein-Mühldorf train station stop, or from Vorchdorf via the Salzkammergut Shuttle Service Route 70 to the Almbrücke stop; please call the taxi dispatch center at least 1 hour in advance at 050-422 422 or book via the otaxi app.

Return trips are possible until 8:00 p.m.; after that, you can use one of the region’s taxi services or take advantage of the overnight accommodations in the region, as listed above.

A1 West Highway: Munich – Salzburg – Regau – Gmunden – Scharnstein – Scharnstein – Almbrücke turnoff – parking lot at the restaurant or Parking Lot 1 for the Scharnstein Ruins, 100 meters away
