FAQs Hiking

Important: Please pay attention to the notices about trail closures/obstructions on our website and on the respective trails (marked by signs or barrier tapes).

I really wanted to walk this hiking trail / via ferrata, but there is a barrier - what to do?

Turn back and do not walk on it under any circumstances! In cooperation with the alpine clubs, the municipalities and the Austrian Federal Forests we maintain and care for a hiking trail network of about 200km. From time to time it can happen that due to natural events such as storms, thunderstorms, etc., hunting or forestry work, paths have to be closed temporarily and at short notice. In any case, there is a danger to life when walking on a closed path! In case of possible injuries and thereby necessary rescue measures also existing insurances get out. Together with our partners we try to keep closures as short as possible.

Are there cable cars in the Traunsee-Almtal region?

Yes, there are two cable cars that are in operation in the summer. The Feuerkogel cable car in Ebensee and the Grünberg cable car in Gmunden.

Is there parking under the stone (Traunstein) pure?

Yes there is parking, but only in limited numbers. From 03 April, a FREE short-stay parking zone (a parking meter for max. 3 hours must be attached ) is planned at the reversal car park until October and we therefore recommend that you use the shuttle bus (Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays) from the Seebahnhof or the Traunstein Taxi (daily).

Info about the shuttle Unterm Stein:

The hiking bus runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (also in bad weather) in the direction of the Umkehrplatz.
From there you can easily reach the various entrances to the Traunstein.

TRAVEL TIMES:
The hiking bus departs from 5.30 a.m. (April & October), from 4 a.m. (May to September).
Last journey direction from Seebahnhof 6.00 pm.

PRICES:

  • Shuttleticket / one way: € 5,00
  • Shuttleticket / return trip: € 10,00
  • Shuttle ticket / partner ticket ( 2 adults): € 20,00 (incl. € 5,00 voucher)

The partner ticket includes a voucher of € 5.00. This is valid as a Gmundner gift voucher and can be redeemed in the shops and restaurants of the town of Gmunden.

The Miesweg is a well secured path over wooden footbridges and on rocky paths directly along and over the lake under the Traunstein. Immediately at the first tunnel you reach the forest road again and past the Jausenstation Moaristidl the starting point.

Which paths are suitable for strollers?

How do I get to the Almsee and can I park there?

It is possible to park at Almsee, but parking is very limited and therefore it is recommended to travel by Traunstein Taxi.
