historical paddle steamer "Gisela"

Gmunden, Oberösterreich, Österreich
"Built in 1871 and not a bit tired".

not everyone knows that..

The “Gisela” named after a daughter of the Emperor Franz Joseph is the last of a total of five steamboats which have travelled the picturesque Traunsee. They were built in the Ruston’schen shipyard in Vienna-Floridsdorf. Through an exemplerary rescue operation in 1981, this unique boat was classified as the first floating historical monument, which enabled it to be renovated between 1980 and 1986. On this boat is the “first floating post office” in Austria. It is possible to send letters or postcards from the boat to anywhere in the world. Our flagship celebrated its 135th birthday
in 2006, and it has the last oscillating cylinder steam engine (built 1870 by Prager Maschinenbau AG) in the world which is still in service.
