In 1904, during the night between Friday and Saturday, Josef K. set fire to his mother’s house (Maurerhäusl). Whilst the house was ablaze and all the emergency services were on the scene, he also set fire to the farm belonging to his godmother, Anna Maria (Hochgraben). Whilst the house was already ablaze, the owner had rushed out to the stable to save the livestock and had tragically lost her life in the process. Anna Maria, who had been a widow for five years, was 49 years old and left behind two children aged 17 and 13. This tragic event was the reason why, on 15 July 1904, 25 courageous men gathered at the Mösl inn and founded the Eben-Nachdemsee Volunteer Fire Brigade. It was decided to build a fire station on the current site and to purchase a hand-operated fire pump. The first call-out took place on 13 April 1905 to a fire at Johann Kreuzer’s property, which had been started by a basket weaver. The armoury and the hand-operated fire pump were inaugurated on 1 October 1905 by Consistorial Councillor Reverend Lambert Schmidbauer. The current fire station has been renovated and extended several times in recent years to meet modern requirements. It offers sufficient space for the vehicles, the equipment and the crew. The youth group has also been given its own room.
