According to the statutes, the task of the ÖWR is exclusively and directly the creation and promotion of all measures and institutions that serve to combat and prevent death by drowning.
In particular, this is the provision of swimming lessons for beginners and advanced swimmers as a preventive task against death by drowning, instruction and training in rescue swimming, diving, rescue diving and in operating rowing and motor boats, in standing and flowing water (if regional requirements also under white water conditions), as well as taking care of the training of ÖWR task forces and other interested parties in setting first aid measures after accidents on and in the water.
