Viechtauer Heimathaus "Rabenwies"

Neukirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich

This small but for the region typical farmhouse is more than 800 years old. It shows the poor and hard life oft he residents. Every year different cribs are shown, mostly typical „Viechtauer cribs“. Entry: EUR 3.- per pax

The nativity scenes on display at the Heimathaus are lovingly looked after by the curator, Mr Johann Gaigg, and bear witness to the lives of the people of Viechtau. Just a small corner in the ‘Herrgottswinkel’ was enough to allow these people to experience the magic of Christmas with all the more fervour. No great pomp and splendour – just a little silver tinsel from broken baubles and the ‘Bärentatzenstanken’ served as decorations. As not everyone could afford a hand-carved nativity scene, so-called ‘Loammandl nativity scenes’ were also built, or figures were turned on a lathe.
