A journey through the Salzkammergut accompanied by street music. As part of the 2024 Capital of Culture, Hubert von Goisern and his guests performed on lakeshores, in town squares, in front of churches, in parking lots, in front of train stations, and even at a construction site. One day they were in a popular tourist town; another gig took them to an old quarry on the shore of a remote lake accessible only by boat. Hubert von Goisern was accompanied by recipients of the HvG Culture Prize, longtime band members, and musical friends from the U.S., who brought country vibes, bluegrass, and Latin American sounds to the Salzkammergut. The finale of the street music tour took place in St. Wolfgang—the only municipality in the Salzkammergut that did not participate in the Capital of Culture year—in the form of a remarkable, silent interpretation of “Heast as nit.”

“I was never gone. I was out on the street, playing—with whoever happened to be around. I invited people over; whoever had time joined in. Learning to deal with constantly changing situations was both a challenge and an enriching experience. We played about 50 concerts. It wasn’t a vacation—it was better than a vacation.”
