Vienna in the late 1920s: As a student from a wealthy Jewish family, Bruno Kreisky is reluctantly accepted into the Socialist Workers’ Youth. As political tensions in the country escalate, Bruno and his fellow young activists risk everything. Together, they organize banned meetings, distribute calls to resistance, and rise up against the fascist regime. In doing so, they put not only their freedom but also their lives on the line. Bruno steadfastly defends his ideals and resolutely follows his path—from a youthful rebel to a social democratic statesman on the world stage.

In BRUNO – THE YOUNG KREISKY, acclaimed Austrian director Harald Sicheritz (“Hinterholz 8”) explores the formative years of one of the 20th century’s most significant Austrian politicians. The film recounts Bruno Kreisky’s early years, caught between his middle-class upbringing and the dawn of political activism, and—with a star-studded cast—paints a multifaceted portrait of a young man who courageously stands up to the rise of fascism. Nils Arztmann, winner of the 2025 Nestroy Prize, shines in the lead role
