How bizarre realism comes into the world - an expedition to art and nature from Traunkirchen to the Karbach quarry on the east bank.

Above the monastery square in Traunkirchen, a villa was built around 1850 for a Georgian-Russian prince's daughter - a meeting place for famous musicians and writers. Works by contemporary artists can now be seen there, such as the main work “Karbach-Hochalter” by Walter Pilar in the Garden Hall. In the salon, bedroom and cabinet, guests experience works that are fascinating and irritating, humorous and serious at the same time. There are dives, root worlds, headstands and an endless necklace. From the terrace, the mountains on the other bank of Lake Traunsee appear like the background landscape in Leonardo da Vinci's “Mona Lisa”.

The transfer to the Karbach quarry takes place by boat. The destination is the disused Karbach mine, an industrial plant in the middle of a picturesque mountain world on the lonely eastern bank. White limestone was mined here from 1890 to 2005, “the mountain was transported across the lake” (according to Pilar) and processed into soda in Ebensee. Guests encounter artistic interventions, such as an alchemical laboratory, a sound performance with singing stones, and the alpenglow underground.
