A project of the Almtaler Bergwiesn cultural landscape and cultural property conservation association

Along the popular hiking trail from the Tissenbachtal to the well-known Scharnstein castle ruins is the so-called "Wagner Chapel" - a small monument that was erected around 140 years ago based on a legend. Unfortunately, the small monument in private ownership is hardly maintained and maintained - it is more or less left to decay. The "Almtaler Bergwiesn Verein" has therefore set itself the goal of tackling the preservation of this cultural asset with the consent of the private owners. The aim of the project is to preserve the historic small monument; Provide information about the wondrous story of the "Wagner Chapel"; Emphasizing the specificity of the site and taking care of it to the extent that it remains safely accessible.

This family-friendly excursion can be wonderfully combined with a visit to the Geyerhammer Museum and a visit to the Scharnstein ruins.

The ideal way to get there is with the Almtalbahn (Wels-Grünau) to Scharnstein-Mühldorf train station. A newly built wooden bridge leads to the right bank of the Alm river.

Other hiking options: along the “Genuss am Almfluss” path in both directions or up to the Windhagkogel or the Hochsalm.
