There is hardly another market-town of this size with such a high density of gastronomic stablishments. You can find a quaintly cider-tavern, a Viennese coffee-shop and an accredited gourmet restaurant. Not every village has its own private brewery either, which brews the world’s strongest beer called Samichlaus as well as the beer of the region (“Bier zum Salzkammergut”). The market-town at the gateway to the Salzkammergut region can easily be reached via highway A1 (Westautobahn), by local train (Vorchdorfer Bahn) or the City-tram that runs between Gmunden and Vorchdorf.
Besides the culinary specialties it also offers numerous interesting museums: the impressive Motor-Bike Museum with mostly BMW -motor bikes, the Enamel-Museum of Mrs. Gertrude Stöhr and the Fire-brigade-Museum, to name only a few. The event-centers by the name of Kitzmantelfabrik and of the brewery “Schloss Eggenberg” provide for a great setting for cultural events, exhibitions, cabarets and even open air concerts. The manor of “Gut Groß Höllnberg and very good inns also offer the right ambience for weddings. Accommodations can be found in the seminar and farm-holiday establishment or in many other cosy inns right in the center.
The path along the Alm river meanders through the village center until it branches off along the Laudach river for a short stretch and returns to the Alm river just before the church of Einsiedling, which is also worth a visit.
And yes, Vorchdorf is also home to well established businesses like: MIBA, WICK-windows, ETZI-houses, the Urkornhof and many more.
