10 Years Anniversairy Biologicum Almtal

This year's Biologicum Almtal will take place from 28 September to 1 October.

The year 2023 is also the 50th anniversary of the Konrad Lorenz Research Centre in the Almtal and the 10th anniversary of the Biologicum Almtal.

We celebrate the pioneering spirit of the scientists of the past centuries, who paved the way for the understanding of complex animal societies.

In addition to a profound knowledge of the genetic basis of life, we have gained enormous insights into individual differences on the one hand and the diversity of social organisations on the other. In this year's Biologicum Almtal we would like to highlight human partnerships that have set the course for the natural sciences, as well as present model systems from the animal kingdom that have inspired us to look at society in terms of leaders and followers, taking into account a high degree of cooperation.

Biologicum Almtal and Junior Biologicum will take place under the scientific direction of Sonia Kleindorfer and Didone Frigerio, the general organisation will be done by staff of the Konrad Lorenz Research Unit in cooperation with the International Academy Traunkirchen. We are looking forward to a lively exchange in the beautiful Almtal valley in early autumn, with exciting lectures and discussions, eventful excursions, a pub quiz as an entertaining evening programme and the usual delicious culinary accompaniments.

Who organizes the Biologicum Almtal?

The event is organized by the Konrad Lorenz Research Center for Behavioral and Cognitive Biology at the University of Vienna in cooperation with the International Academy in Traunkirchen. It is financed with the contributions of the participants and supported by the state of Upper Austria and some partners and sponsors.

For decades, the Almtal has been associated with cutting-edge biological research through the Konrad Lorenz Research Center of the University of Vienna. The magnificent nature of the valley enables both empirical and sensual-intuitive access to the messages of modern biology. The Almtal is the ideal place for the Biologicum to convey science at the highest level to an interested public.
