Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart is located in the city of Salzburg and is the second largest airport in Austria in terms of aircraft movements.

Der städtisSalzburg Municipal Airfield went into operation on 16 August 1926. The airport is located about three kilometres west of the city centre of Salzburg in the Maxglan district, about two kilometres from the German border, near Ainring and Freilassing.

The airport is situated 430 m above sea level on the former area of the Untersberg moor and in the area of the Salzburg basin. The Untersberg mountain range lies to the south of the airport. The area of the airport site extends over 175 hectares.
