All questions about dialect in the Traunsee Almtal region

"The Sattl" is a dialect word for the Feuerkogel which is a mountain in Ebensee. When someone from Ebensee takes the cable car to the Feuerkogel, they take a ride to the "Sattl".

"Steckerlfisch" is a real culinary highlight in the Traunsee-Almtal region. Fish is fried on a stick and then served with fresh bread.

Only here at Lake Traunsee do you have the original Stanglfisch, which is prepared with the Riedling fish species. That's why it's never said Steckerlfisch, because this rare species of fish is only found in Lake Traunsee! Unfortunately, only a few fry the Riedling anymore and many have already switched to normal "Steckerlfisch" (other types of fish).

So never call the Riedling fish "Stecklfisch" and definitely enjoy it without cutlery! You just bite off :)

"Kesslhoaß'n" are a real delicacy in the region. They are hot sausages, which are served every Thursday from 8 a.m. in the inn or at the butcher's. The delicacy is traditionally eaten with mustard, horseradish and a roll.
