Surfclub Gmunden

Our club’s activities are wide-ranging: we strive to foster an active, community-spirited club life, not just in the summer during the swimming season, but throughout the year.

Our jetty and harbour facilities, newly built in the spring and summer of 2008, are our pride and joy and bring together surfers, swimmers and boaters. Examples of activities from previous years include: weekly get-togethers (regulars’ night), Christmas parties, weekly fitness sessions, group tobogganing, hikes up the Grünberg, curling, a stall at public events, lively barbecue evenings on the club grounds, surfing trips to Lake Neusiedl, gardening on the club grounds, etc. Our aim is to foster a sense of community and to revitalise surfing – which has been pushed into the background in recent years by numerous passing fads – and to make it as appealing as possible to young people. A further aim was to bring the sport of surfing back to Lake Traunsee in 2007 through regattas and side events, as well as to actively support active members through potential funding from the state and federal governments. The first step was taken in 2007 with the 1st ‘surf-4-fun’ windsurfing regatta. A new generation of the ‘surf-4-fun’ windsurfing regatta followed in 2008. A comprehensive programme featuring numerous activities, such as a fashion show, a live band, a suckling pig barbecue and a morning pint, added to the atmosphere of this unique event. What does our club offer … A beautiful new fixed jetty, a marina with five berths and a large floating jetty that provides a peaceful spot for sunbathing, whilst also offering excellent access to Lake Traunsee. A 20-metre-long fixed jetty with swimming facilities and a 35-metre-long floating jetty, both with excellent access points to enjoy the ‘cool’ waters of Lake Traunsee, await you.
