One of Kirchham´s most remarkable and oldest buildings is the Gasthaus Pöll Inn which was first mentioned in historical documents in 1179.
Due to its location and architecture the castle probably was, probably, a former sovereign´s residence. In the 12th century the castle first appeared in documents but there are no papers regarding the castle´s history until the 16th century.
In those days the outstanding castle was - according to the documents - an "official tavern" under the "direction of the Eggenberg Dynasty", featuring the "ancient right to sell food and drink". Legend also has it that the castle was a robber baron´s seat and that there existed a small, connecting tunnel to the "Kumpfmühle" area.
