Next to the Restaurant "Eisengattern" grows a thousand year old basswood-tree.

This "thousand-year-old basswood tree" is well known all around. The land upper austria declared the tree - because of its radius and age - to a nature-monument. Basswood-trees tend to grow this old, not only because they are very weather resistent, but also because its wood is not a really good material to build things. Its more used by artist for skulpures. The most sacred figures are made out of basswood. This started the nickname "holy wood"

Once this tree purpose was to throw a shadow onto the guest of the restaurant. Way before that, the tree had a really importand duty. In between the tree and the building was a iron gate. The Restaurant was back than a custom-station. People were only allowed to pass after doing a certain payment. This gate brought the name to the restaurante and the village - the basswood tree is a reminder for that.
