Traunkirchen at lake Traunsee

Traunkirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
GENERAL INORMATIONS FACTS, ACCOMODATIONS, EVENTS, SIGHTS,... Traunkirchen, mystical island, full of life energy and a retreat for the soul.

Traunkirchen, one of the most picturesque places of the Salzkammergut, is located on a peninsula at the western shores of Traunsee Lake.
The idyllic village centre is marked by the former monastery, Johannesberg Mountain and an impressive backdrop of mountains and has always been an inspiration and retreat for painters, writers and artists.
Small but beautiful, that is what Traunkirchen is like. The village centre has been traffic calmed since 2008 and the former monastery is home to the International Academy (science) and the Summer Academy for Painting. It thus connects the eventful past of a religious centre with the promising future of particle physics.

Numerous historic sights and events like the Baroque parish church with the famous “Fischerkanzel” pulpit, the Johannesberg chapel, the Salzkammergut’s oldest Calvary (1699), the “Via Historica” culture trail with texts by Alfred Komarek, the Museum of Handicrafts or the Corpus Christi parade that has been held at Traunsee Lake since 1632 wait to be explored and attended just like vantage points with a past as cult places.

Exceptional venues for holding events and conferences range from historic buildings to mystical places of power. Together with the varied offers by gastronomy and accommodation providers they provide for a hospitable ambiance.

Here it is not only about culture, culinary delights and scenery. A well-marked network of hiking trails makes a charming hiking area accessible and invites to a colourful leisure world full of spots for bathing, water sports, boat rentals and cruises, running trails and mountain bike routes at different levels of difficulty and a natural toboggan run in the winter.
