Vorchdorf is the northernmost village in the District of Gmunden and has a long history dating back to the Neolithic Age. Evidence of this early settlement are ancient tools, a Roman tombstone, and coins.
In the center of Vorchdorf the Hochhaus Castle, a place with heritage and history, is a central focus for the residents of and the visitors to the town. The mighty Renaissance structure once was the seat of the District´s law courts while today it is home to the Local Heritage Museum and a friendly Inn. Eggenberg Castle, the second castle of Vorchdorf, is the oldest, family owned Brewery in Austria.

How to get to Vorchdorf in the Traunsee-Almtal region:
We recommend travelling by public transport!
by train: via Wels station to Lambach station, with the Vorchdorf railway (line 160) or from Gmunden with the Traunsee tram (line 161) of Stern & Hafferl Bahnen to Vorchdorf Eggenberg.
Numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) and to the Passau railway (line 150) to Passau (D). Also with the Traunsee tram via Gmunden to the Salzkammergut railway (line 170) in the direction of Bad Ischl, Hallstatt and Bad Aussee.
By bus:

Coming from Wels or Linz on the R 4 Traunradweg or R6 Römerradweg, or from Gmunden R 4 Traunradweg or from Passau via Vöcklabruck and Schwanenstadt on the R 6 Römerradweg to Lambach, via the Traunkraftwerk Lambach and via Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting to Vorchdorf. Also via the cycle connection from the R 11 Almtalradweg from Almsee via Pettenbach, briefly on the R 13 Traunviertlerradweg to Einsiedlung and then to Vorchdorf or coming from Laakirchen or Kirchham.
