Exhibition: 120 years Local railroad Lambach - Vorchdorf-Eggenberg

Experience the history of the local railroad up close!

The special exhibition in the museum of the region Vorchdorf - Kitzmantelfabrik is dedicated to the impressive rail traffic history of the local railroad: Since 1903, the local railroad Lambach - Vorchdorf-Eggenberg at the border of the Upper Austrian Hausruckviertel to the Traunviertel or Salzkammergut fulfills its traffic mission unspectacularly, but always reliably.

Today, the 15.5 km long electric local railroad is secured in its existence and goes back to an initiative of a future-oriented abbot of Lambach Abbey. It offers the population an attractive local transport service in a predominantly rural region. The world economic crisis in 1930 and 1931 caused the Lokalbahn Lambach - Vorchdorf-Eggenberg AG to transfer the operation of the railroad from the k.u.k. Staatsbahn to the traditional company Stern & Hafferl. This was followed by the immediate conversion from steam trains to electric operation, and by November 1931 the line was already fully electrified.

Stern & Hafferl Verkehr thus laid the foundation many years ago for today's positive developments in both passenger and freight transport. Looking back, numerous innovations and investments show the future-oriented vision of the group of companies.

We recommend that you travel by public transport!

by train:
via Wels station to Lambach station, with the Vorchdorferbahn (line 160) or from Gmunden with the Traunsee Tram (line 161) from Stern & Haferl Bahnen to Vorchdorf Eggenberg. Numerous connections from Wels station to the main trains on the Westbahn line (line 101) or via Gmunden to the Salzkammergutbahn in the direction of Bad Ischl, Hallstatt and Bad Aussee.

by bus: OÖVV bus routes 481 from Kirchdorf to Vorchdorf or 501 from Wels to Vorchdorf

by Traunstein Taxi Route 70 from Scharnstein station via Pettenbach to the Vorchdorf station stop, call the taxi centre at least 1 hour in advance on 050-422 1691 or order on the otaxi app.

By bike:
From Gmunden, from Bad Wimsbach, from Pettenbach or from Laakirchen you can get to Vorchdorf very easily on beautiful side roads and partly cycle paths.

by car:
Westautobahn A1: Vienna - Voralpenkreuz-A1 - Exit A1 Vorchdorf. Westautobahn A1: Munich - Salzburg - exit A1 Vorchdorf Inntal motorway A8 Passau - Wels - Voralpenkreuz A1 - exit A1 Vorchdorf From the centre of Vorchdorf (Schwarzelmüller car park) you will immediately come to the Almuferweg, which leads through Vorchdorf.

Parking is available in the town centre (Schwarzelmüller car park), next to the Kitzmantelfabrik event area and at Vorchdorf railway station. (all close to the path!)
