In the dazzling world of Bilderbuch, good humour, colourful lights and confetti merge into an electrifying atmosphere that effortlessly tips over into the euphoric and magical. Their live performances are a true celebration for the senses, an experience that is not easily forgotten. No wonder the band was honoured with the coveted Amadeus Award as Live Act of the Year in 2020.
Founded in 2005 as a school band in Upper Austria, Bilderbuch is now one of the most successful Austrian pop acts in the German-speaking world. 6 albums later and with triumphant successes, they return to Upper Austria in 2025 and celebrate two decades of musical innovation in the sensational open-air venue Toscanapark Gmunden on Lake Traunsee.
With the album ‘Schick Schock’, a hybrid of 50 years of pop history, they conquered the year's best lists in 2015, with the follow-up ‘Magic Life’ cracking the Austrian and German top ten in 2017. ‘The best music of the moment’, wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung. That was only a few years ago. Actually, one would think that these songs are still fresh enough for an unrivalled party in the Salzkammergut. But Bilderbuch are already two rounds further on. The sky is open and Maurice Ernst (vocals and guitar), Michael Krammer (guitar), Peter Horazdovsky (bass) and Philipp Scheibl (drums) have created a huge field for experimentation that they have explored in all directions. With the digital double release ‘mea culpa’ and ‘Vernissage My Heart’, Bilderbuch integrate soft psychedelic soul and art pop, while on the current album ‘Gelb ist das Feld’ they indulge in the rock music of the seventies.
Between zeitgeist aphorisms, Dada and checker pose
Today, this band can do all styles and much more - they combine them again and again and refine them with their pop sophistication, because Bilderbuch themselves have such a strong signature that everything they do is ultimately one thing above all: Bilderbuch. This is not least due to the unique lyrics by Maurice Ernst, described by SPIEGEL as ‘alternating between zeitgeist aphorisms, Dada and checker pose’. And whenever we think we have just understood them, they are already somewhere else entirely. For example, with the psychedelia of the current Bilderbuch LP ‘Softpower (Deluxe)’. There's really only one thing with every new Bilderbuch release: hits.
