Die schöne Müllerin - Geburtstagsfest für Franz Welser-Möst

It is an extraordinary honor for us that Franz Welser-Möst is celebrating his 65th birthday with the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden. As a musical birthday present, he is wishing for “Die schöne Müllerin” by Franz Schubert - interpreted by the outstanding artists Helmut Deutsch at the piano and baritone Ludwig Mittelhammer.

“Die schöne Müllerin”, a song cycle for voice and piano by Franz Schubert, was composed in 1823. The text for the cycle is based on the collection of poems Die schöne Müllerin by Wilhelm Müller, which is contained in the Seven and Seventy Poems from the Papers of a Traveling French Horn Player, published in 1821.

The baritone Ludwig Mittelhammer studied singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and was a member of the Bavarian Theater Academy August Everding. Highlights of recent years include the Harlequin in “Ariadne auf Naxos” with the Cleveland Orchestra under Franz Welser-Möst.

Helmut Deutsch is one of the most sought-after and successful lied accompanists in the world. Born in Vienna, he studied at the conservatory, the music academy and the university in his home city, was awarded the City of Vienna Composition Prize and became a professor at the age of 24.
