Salt Trail Hike

on National Day, October 26, 2025 Hike -

Start at 10 a.m. at the parish church in Waldburg in the Mühlviertel region: Before starting our hike, we will visit the parish church with its three remarkable late Gothic winged altars. There we will also meet our friends from the Mühlviertel region. At 10 a.m., we will take the Gothic Trail down into the Kronbach Valley to the well-preserved large Kronbach Bridge of the horse-drawn railway, continuing along the horse-drawn railway hiking trail down to Jaunitz, where the mobile information station (also providing information) awaits us. We will then hike slightly uphill to St. Peter, which offers a wonderful view over the Mühlviertel region. From there, we will walk along the Kreuzweg, with Freistadt already in sight, down to the Brauhaus for a well-deserved lunch break.

Alternative: If you prefer to spend more time strolling around Freistadt, no problem, the bus will continue to Freistadt, stopping at the Promenade, and we will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the Freistädter Brauhaus. Leisurely part: At 12:30 p.m., we arrive at the Freistadt brewery, where we have reserved a room and can enjoy regional dishes and Freistadt beer specialties (October beer) for lunch.

Afternoon program: Refreshed, we leave the brewery at 3:00 p.m. and walk through the Linzer Tor gate into the beautifully preserved old town, visit our partners, the Freistadt Castle Museum and the Salzgwölb at Eisengasse 11 (2:00–5:00 p.m.), followed by time to stroll around town and/or visit a coffee house.

Bus trip from Gmunden—main station: Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 7:45 a.m. in front of the main station in Gmunden, departure at 8:00 a.m., joint bus trip to Waldburg in the Mühlviertel region.

Return trip: At 5:30 p.m., we will travel together from Freistadt back to Gmunden. All information about the entire salt route (www.wegdessalzes.at). Arrival in Gmunden at approximately 7:00 p.m.
