Long Night of the Museums - Museum of Contemporary History

The Ebensee Museum of Contemporary History is participating in this year's "ORF Long Night of Museums" 

The Ebensee Museum of Contemporary History, located in the immediate vicinity of the former Ebensee concentration camp (4 km away), commemorates the political history of the Salzkammergut region between 1918 and 1955. Moving beyond idealized images of the homeland, it explores the political conflicts within the political culture of the First Republic, the history of persecution under National Socialism, the forms of resistance, and the key aspects of how the Nazi era was addressed after 1945. In doing so, it rejects a harmonized view of the past and serves as an essential building block of a reflective culture of remembrance.

THE “GERHART BARON LIBRARY” ON THE HISTORY OF THE LABOR MOVEMENT AND WORKERS’ POETRY (FROM 7:00 PM TO 8:30 PM)

Selected items from the library—which comprises more than 1,400 volumes and manuscripts—will be presented, discussed, and read aloud in selected passages. Workers’ songs, performed by the “Arbeitergesangsverein Kohlröserl,” will provide musical accompaniment for the event.
